The North Laurel Animal Hospital has been an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since its inception in 1982. AAHA is an international veterinary organization established in 1933 and is comprised of more than 33,000 veterinary care providers. AAHA is dedicated to instilling the finest quality standards within its member practices providing newsletters, resources and educational programs to its members, including doctors, technicians, receptionists and administrative staff.
AAHA accreditation entails regular certification visits from AAHA staff to ensure the highest quality standards for pet care, surgery and sanitation. Of the 411 veterinary hospitals in Maryland, only 55 are AAHA accredited. This is a meager 13.4% locally and only 15% nationally. We are proud to be one of those 55.
AAHA tenure is not permanent and we are pleased to have been continually recertified as an AAHA accredited hospital. Hospitals must continually comply with the newest AAHA standards and are evaluated on over 900 criteria. Some areas of evaluation include:
AAHA provides a host of materials designed to educate staff and ensure the highest quality of practice and medicine. Veterinarians have access to seminars, newsletters, journals and the AAHA standards of accreditation to guide them and educate them on the latest veterinary practices and standards.
AAHA’s influence extends to the administrative staff of hospitals as well. AAHA provides educational resources on how to more effectively organize and keep track of inventory, leadership and management through seminars, conferences and webcasts. AAHA even provided tips on creating this very website!
