Dr. Bob Cohn D.V.M., President and Head VeterinarianI grew up in Long Island, NY and attended Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH where I graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I then studied veterinary medicine at Araneta University in Manilla, Phillipines. I graduated in May of 1979 and then began working at a surgical referral practice in New York, Flushing Animal hospital. I relocated to Maryland in 1981 when I met my wife Robin. Shortly after, we opened the North Laurel Animal Hospital.
I feel it is important to meet the highest standards of performance and practice of the industry. Accordingly, I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the Eastern Veterinary Orthopedic Society (EVOS), the Veterinary Orthopedic Society (VOS) and the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA). I have also been a managing Board Member of the Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Catonsville, Maryland since 1990.
My family has many animals at our home. My son and I care for our dogs (Petie and Shorty) while my wife looks after the birds, turtles, lizards and many other animals we live with.
In my spare time I enjoy exercising, golfing, ice hockey and spending time with my wife Robin and my son Andrew. I previously coached my son’s hockey teams, however, he is no longer playing so we both keep active in hockey by volunteering with Special Hockey Washington, a group dedicated to helping physically and mentally challenged people to play hockey.
Dr. Kristine Covert D.V.M., Associate VeterinarianI joined the team here at NLAH in July of 2009. I am quite familiar with the area as I grew up in Laurel, MD and started working in local veterinary hospitals as an assistant when I was in high school. My career as a veterinary technician continued to grow for the next 13 years in many small animal general and specialty practices. I moved to Georgia in 1995 and finally decided to go back to school in 1998 to pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian. After graduating from Kennesaw State University in Georgia with a BS in Biology, I moved back to Maryland, returning to Laurel, in 2002 with my husband to be close to my family again. I held a position at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research as a lab animal technician working in Military Casualty Research when I finally got accepted to veterinary school.
In the fall of 2004 I packed my bags to move to the Caribbean for 28 months to attend Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts. My senior clinical year was completed at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia – graduating with my DVM degree from Ross University in January of 2008.
I accepted a 6 month position at the New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania as a Large Animal ophthalmology intern and then in July of 2008 started a small animal emergency, surgery and medicine internship at Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington DC. I continue to work there on occasional Sundays to keep me sharp and because I love the adrenaline rush that comes with emergency medicine.
Any time off I can get involves time with my husband Joe and the newest addition to our family – Elliott, a 3 year old Thoroughbred I adopted from Days End Farm Horse Rescue (www.defhr.org) in September 2010. We are working hard together – learning a lot from one another and preparing for the 2011 show season!!
Additional members of my family include our dogs Ruby, Ripken and Morley, our kitties Stonie, Muffet and Cammie. It’s a big happy family of four legged children in our house!! With the exception of Mr Morley who only has 3 legs from an injury he sustained as a puppy – but he has no clue, and we don’t tell him!
Katie Benedict,Technician I joined North Laurel Animal Hospital in June of 2011. I have worked in the veterinary field for the last 4 years in both Virgina and Alaska. With a spouse in the military, I have adapted to living in new places but always find myself working with animals. My other passion is cake decorating and I am a huge Duff "the Ace of Cakes" fan! I have a labrador retriever named Bazil.

Animals have always been the loves of my life and I feel very lucky to be able to make that love part of my job everyday. Darlene Silver, ReceptionistMy name is Darlene and I have been a Receptionist at the North Laurel Animal Hospital since October 2009. After three decades of managing a top rated veterinary hospital in Howard County, I retired in 2008 only to find a year later I missed the daily interaction with clients and their pets. Having known Dr. Bob for 25 years and respected his high quality AAHA facility, I returned to the workforce and am enjoying the new bonds developing with North Laurel Animal Hospital clients and their pets. It is good to be back in veterinary medicine with such a compassionate staff and great clientele.
At home, I enjoy sharing precious time with six year old Duncan, my smooth-coated Collie and two year old Abby, a Bernese Mountain Dog.
Katie Fox, ReceptionistMy name is Katie and I am one of the receptionists here at North Laurel. I love having a job that allows me tointeract with animals.
